Welcome to Whin knowe

Self Catering Holiday Accommodation near Fort William

At "Whin knowe", Banavie, we offer self catering holiday cottages of charm and character near Fort William with a magnificent view of Ben Nevis. It is an ideal base for climbing, walking, kayaking or skiing or just a place in which to relax.

Standing on its own, Whin knowe has a south facing aspect and superb views of the northern cliffs of Ben Nevis, Carn Mòr Dearg and the ski area on Aonach Mòr.

Whin knowe was probably the first stone house in the crofting township of Banavie, erected in the early 1800s by clanspeople evicted from the head of Loch Arkaig and re-settled in Banavie.. It has never been sold and is owned by the descendants of its builders. The house is surrounded by nine acres of croft land, roughly half of which is native woodland, predominantly birch and oak. There is a resident population of roe deer which often come close to the house, especially early in the morning and at dusk. Red deer pass through now and again and numerous species of birdlife may be seen.

We have two properties available for self catering holiday accommodation, The Barn, our original cottage, and The Byre, which is a new build detached cottage which has been built on the site of our old byre or cowhouse. The cottages are reached by taking the Mallaig road (A830) until it crosses the Caledonian Canal at Banavie. Turn right immediately and follow the B8004 for half a mile. The original house is white and is set back a little from the road, on the right, behind some trees. There is a green and gold sign at the road end advertising the cottages.

Both properties are fully furnished and equipped.
