At “Whin Knowe”, Banavie, we offer a self catering holiday cottage of charm and character near Fort William with a magnificent view of Ben Nevis. The Byre is an ideal base for climbing, walking, kayaking, skiing, cycling or just a place in which to relax. Bikes can be stored in a barn or garage and we have a power washer for cleaning them.

Standing on its own, The Byre has a south facing aspect and superb views of the northern cliffs of Ben Nevis, Carn Mòr Dearg and the ski area on Aonach Mòr without being overshadowed by the big hills. As we are concerned to reduce the environmental footprint of our business some of The Byre’s electricity is generated by 16 solar panels on a nearby building.

The cottage is surrounded by nine acres of croft land, roughly half of which is native woodland, predominantly birch and oak. There is a resident population of roe deer which often come close to the house, especially early in the morning and at dusk. Red deer pass through now and again and numerous species of birdlife may be seen. The pine martens and stoats will see you and if you are lucky; very, very lucky you will see them. (If you’re not lucky we can show you marten scats!)

The Byre, which is a new build detached cottage which has been built on the site of our old byre or cowhouse.
